5 WAYS TO SPRUCE UP YOUR FALL WARDROBE

10/8/2019

After over a year, I finally found enough time to make a post so welcome back! It's finally time to take your sweaters and boots out of the closet because fall is finally here!! The morning air is crisp and the dew is starting to cover our cars and it's WONDERFUL. Fall is my favorite season because it's the perfect weather for layering and it's also the season you can find pumpkin pie in your local grocery store ;). As the temperature begins to drop, the warmer and darker clothes begin to be worn more and more. However, if you know me, you know that I love wearing color and I believe fall is a great time to add more color and patterns into your wardrobe. I've compiled 5 different ways you can spruce up your fall wardrobe this fall as well as my favorite pieces this season. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think about these picks :)

LEATHER PANTS

Leather pants are a great addition for your wardrobe this fall and a basic piece that can be worn throughout the years. Leather pants or leggings are almost always available at large retailers and are a closet essential to consider adding to your wardrobe. Leather bottoms can be paired with a solid tee, a chunky sweater, or any other basic top and can be dressed up with heels or dressed down with a pair of sneakers.

BLAZERS

Nothing says "boss lady" more than a good power suit. Blazers are another popular item this fall and are a simple way to make your outfit look more chic . Purchasing a high quality blazer is definitely a good wardrobe investment since they are so versatile and can be worn in a professional setting, for a date night, or dressed down with a pair of jeans. As we begin to get closer to winter, you can layer this under a trench coat for extra warmth and, in the warmer months, blazers can be paired with a pair of denim shorts and a t-shirt for an effortless and trendy look. This fall, houndstooth and plaid are very popular but, if you are not to keen on purchasing a patterned blazer, a solid colored, loose-fitting blazer is a great purchase to consider adding to your wardrobe.

SWEATERS

Sweaters are a great closet essential that will last you all year round and can be paired with a pair of jeans or tucked into a pair of denim shorts. Purchasing a high-quality sweater can be a great investment because sweaters are always practical and they are  an easy piece that can make an outfit look more polished. Sweaters make for an effortless look and always look great with a french tuck (tucking it only into the front of your bottoms and leaving it loose in the back). These are my favorite sweater picks for this fall:

STATEMENT TOPS

Statement tops are some of my favorite closet pieces because they allow you to get dressed in the morning with little to no effort. When paired with a solid pant, you can almost always guarantee to have an outfit picked in 2 minutes or less.  Statement tops are a great way to make a look more trendy and put-together. Statement tops often change with trends and are pieces that, in my opinion, may not be worth spending an extensive amount of your money on because, as trends progress, these pieces may not be worn anymore. Instead, try retailers like Zara and Revolve for reasonably priced, in-season tops.

STATEMENT EARRINGS

Statement earrings are another great way to spruce up your fall wardrobe and can be paired with any of the pieces linked above. I love statement earrings because they can be worn with little makeup, a ponytail, a low bun, or any hairstyle that requires little effort. Statement earrings can make your outfit look as if you put effort into picking your clothes and accessories but, in reality, are another way to add something fun to your look in 2 minutes or less. Statement earrings can be worn with a casual outfit like a t-shirt and jeans or can be worn for a night out. These are my picks for my favorite statement earrings this season:

Fall: the season for boots, scarves, layering and the September Vogue issue! Now that Labor Day is over and Fall is officially starting, it's time to break out your favorite boots, tights, sweater dresses and, my personal favorite, leather jackets! Trends to look forward to this fall are furs, lots of glitter (channelling Cardi B in her YSL outfit for the VMA's), wide belts, a modern take on Western style like a fun pair of steel-toed boots, pantsuits and lots of reds! Below are the trends I'm looking forward to this fall from various retailers!

velvet

One of my favorite trends this season is velvet! I think it's a super fun addition to everyones closet and isn't just a style to wear during the holidays! What I love about velvet is how a simple addition of a velvet piece to your outfit will immediately make the look dressy. I picked 3 velvet pieces I liked for this upcoming season like the Misguided dress, the Steve Madden heel and the Revolve cami. The dress is a fun going-out look and, if you don't want a velvet dress to look so holiday-esque, you can always try a lighter color like a blush or even a golden color. The Steve Madden heels are a super fun addition to your closet you definitely need this season! Although the shoe itself is a simple design, the fabric makes them a statement piece for any look! Finally, the Revolve tank is an easy piece to add into your closet that works perfectly for fall and can carry over into your winter wardrobe as well! Pair it with a leather skirt, a pair of dark or distressed jeans or fitted slacks for a chic and trendy look these upcoming seasons!

florals

The floral print this fall is another one of my favorite trends for the season because it's a vintage vibe with a modern take. The floral pattern is a closet essential that can easily be dressed up or dressed down. For example, the Topshop corset top I selected from their website can be worn with a pair of fitted distressed jeans and a pair of sneakers or a pair of booties but can also be worn with a black skirt or high-rise black jeans, a wide belt and a pair of fun heels (maybe even some velvet heels). The Free People dress from Revolve is another fun addition you need in your closet this fall and would look great paired with an oversized jean jacket or a leather  moto jacket!  Finally, the floral jumpsuit from Nasty Gal is a fun dressy look that is an easy piece to add to your closet since it doesn't require much thought when it comes to figuring out what to pair it with. It can be worn with a pair of nude heels, wedges, or even booties as pictured.

gingham / PLAID

Saving the best for last, my favorite trend this season is Gingham! Although it could look like a picnic blanket, I think that if you pick the gingham pattern on the right piece of clothing, it's a fun pattern to incorporate into your closet. The first Gingham piece i chose is a top from Revolve that i LOVE. It's the plaid pattern that is common everywhere but it has a fun flared sleeve look and some ruching in the front which accentuates your waist. A top like this is a fun casual look that works for the fall with the long sleeves which makes it cute and practical! The second piece I chose was a red gingham dress from Revolve that I love! What I've noticed with the gingham tops and dresses with a style like the one pictured is it photographs funny and can look unflattering in some shots but I like to wear my top like this off the shoulder because off the shoulder tops and dresses are flattering on everyone! The final gingham piece I chose was this gingham skirt from Bloomingdales that I love! It is a dressier piece in my opinion but is definitely an essential for the fall. It would look great with a moto leather jacket, an oversized jean jacket, a black bandeau top or nearly any other neutral top you can think of!  The pattern is also flattering on a pair of pants and can be worn with an off the shoulder jean jacket like how WeWoreWhat (Danielle Bernstein) wore her jacket by only buttoning the bottom 2-3 buttons and wearing the rest off the shoulder!

festival season

Festival Season is finally here which means its time to start choosing outfits! Whether you're about to make your way to Coachella or Stagecoach, the outfit options are limitless. I've put together 4 of my favorite looks for this upcoming festival season for different vibes from feminine to edgy outfits.
Picture
Look #1: One of my favorite trends for this upcoming festival season is this feminine "For Love and Lemons" two piece look from Revolve. What I love about this look is the figure-flattering design of both the top and skirt as well as the A-line shape of the skirt. The length of the skirt is great for petite women because of the slight high-low design.
Picture
Look #2: Another one of my favorite looks is this two-piece set from Tiger Mist. Two-pieces are one of my favorite trends this spring because you are able to achieve a definitive look by matching both pieces but you also have the freedom to separate the look by pairing the top with a pair of denim shorts to make the look more edgy or wearing the skirt with another crop top or loose blouse to make the look more "brunch-appropriate." This two piece look is feminine and trendy with the "blood-orange" color that is popular this season.
Picture
Look #3: Another trend that I love this season is the mustard yellow color that is appearing in several different styles by various brands. The mustard yellow is flattering to all skin tones and matches with all hair colors. This White Fox look is another outfit with the tied-up trend that is popular this spring and that will most likely roll over into summer. This two piece is great for festival season because it's figure flattering and a way to escape the desert heat. This look can be made into a feminine look by pairing it with a necklace and bracelets but can also be made into an edgy look, as pictured, with a statement belt and a choker.
Picture
Picture
Look #4: Finally, one of my absolute trends I've seen in a long time is the embroidered look. What I love about the embroidered styles is that no two pieces from different retailers are the same and they allow you to express a certain vibe by having the option to wear a piece embroidered with flowers for a feminine-edgy look or a piece that consist of several patches with phrases. This look from revolve is one of my favorite outfits for festival season because its a look you can wear outside of the concert grounds and wear to breakfast or for a beach day. The blush pink bodysuit from Revolve causes the embroidered shorts, also from Revolve, to look more feminine but by pairing the shorts with a black or red off-the-shoulder bodysuit and a statement necklace, the look can become more unique and edgy.

Simplicity is key in an outfit like this. Knit is both fashion-forward and comfortable which makes it a great choice for everyday outfits. What I love about this AllSaints top is its shape and material, which is flattering with its modest neckline, tight fit at the bust and a loose fit at the natural waist. This top is great for petite women because its length is cropped so it goes great with high-waisted jeans like these Topshop petite high-waisted jeans.
Picture
After I discovered my first pair of well-fitting, high-waisted jeans, I never went back to low-rise pants again. These Topshop jeans were my first pair and have been my go-to pair of distressed denim ever since. Distressed denim is one of my favorite styles and is an easy way to make an outfit more edgy. I cannot stress enough how essential I think high-waisted bottoms are in a petite woman's wardrobe because it elongates the leg, allowing us "fun-sized" women to appear taller than we actually are, which is always a plus. The skinny fit of these jeans is slimming and pairs great with heels, like those pictured in this post.
Picture
These Zara heels are actually a thrift-store find from a local thrift store in San Diego called Flashbacks. Typically, I don't shop at thrift stores but a rare occurrence brought me to these fun, studded heels that were on sale for $18 so i couldn't resist. Pointed-toe heels are great for dressing up an outfit and the studs make the outfit more edgy. Although I practically live in booties and sandals, it's always fun getting dressed up and wearing heels as detailed as these, regardless of the minimal amount of space there is for your toes.

With fall and winter quickly approaching, one of my favorite looks to put together is an all black look like this one. It's super easy and can take you from day to night. My top is a backless bodysuit from Nasty Gal and is one of my favorite pieces in my closet. It looks great with almost anything and is fun to wear. All black is not only a look that you don't have to think twice about, it's also flattering for all body types.

The Joes Jeans in this look are a simple black skinny jean and great for petite women like myself. I did roll up the pant leg about twice to show off the high ankle booties but the unrolled pant sits perfectly at my ankle. What I love the most about Joes Jeans is the fact that they stretch with use and don't shrink after putting them in the wash. The next detail to this look is the brown belt which softens the all black look. This belt is one of my favorites from Urban Outfitters. Not only is it affordable, it's also fun to wear and can make any simple outfit look edgy.
